Organisers are hoping for a record-breaking Walking Bus
Thousands of children in the North West are set to take part in what organisers hope will be the country's largest "walking bus" on Wednesday.

About 7,481 school children across the region will join an estimated 42,000 others from around the country in the record-breaking attempt.

Brake, the road safety charity, is organising the event.

They said the North West had the highest number of child pedestrian casualties in the country.

According to the charity, 13 children under the age of 15 were killed and 311 seriously hurt in the region in 2003.

Their campaign is calling for for traffic calming, crossings, cycle paths, pavements, speed cameras and lower speed limits to encourage walking and cycling in a safer environment for children.
