United Utilities wants to build 26 turbines on moorland |
A month-long public inquiry into plans to build a wind farm on moors near Rochdale starts on Tuesday. Local councils and residents oppose proposals to build 26 wind turbines between Knowl Moor and Scout Moor.
Each turbine is two thirds the size of Blackpool Tower and some residents believe they will spoil the landscape and create noise pollution.
But those in favour, believe the future of clean fuel is being hindered by the objections of a minority.
A final decision will be made after the public inquiry.
The windfarm is a joint proposal from United Utilities and Peel Holdings to form Scout Moor Wind Farms.
Scout Moor Wind Farms says the turbines will bring clean and green electricity as an alternative to power stations which burn polluting fossil fuels.
