"Excessive noise" will not be tolerated, the council says.

Council officials and police raided the house in Brailsford Road, Fallowfield, Manchester following complaints about loud music.

The students will have to pay council costs estimated at �500 to reclaim it.

"These students have just learned an extremely hard lesson," said Coun Eddy Newman, executive member for housing.

"Excessive noise which makes life miserable for our residents will simply not be tolerated."

One set of DJ equipment belonged to the student but the other is the property of a city centre club night events company.

"The fact that not all the property seized belonged to the students is incidental," said Cllr Newman.

He added: "If it was being used to create excessively loud music, then it would be subject to seizure."

The students were served with a noise abatement notice on 23 August.

But a council official witnessed "excessively loud music on Saturday night," when a party with two DJs was taking place, a council statement said.
