Record breaking year for airport
Manchester Airport
Manager are hoping to boost numbers using the airport
Manchester Airport has announced a record number of passengers in the past 12 months.

Around 20m people have passed through the country's third biggest airport since this time last year.

The airport, currently 11th in a league table of European airports, says it is on course to double that figure by 2015.

The figures are being hailed as good news for the region's economy, but environmentalists have objected.

The Green Party claims the increase in air traffic will cause damage to the climate.

At peak times, the airport deals with 5,500 passengers an hour.
