Fewer flight delays at airports
Stansted Airport
Stansted Airport saw fewer delays
Passenger faced far fewer delays at UK airports between July and September last year, despite security fears.

Three quarters of all charter flights into and out of the 10 biggest UK airports were on time compared to only two thirds back in the summer of 2002.

Average delay times fell for chartered and scheduled flights, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

Gatwick, Stanstead and Manchester were amongst the UK's most improved airports as far as delays were concerned.

The 10 airports monitored were Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Luton, Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London City.

The average delay of charter flights has dropped from 25 to 20 minutes since the summer of 2002.

The performance of scheduled flights also picked up.

More than three quarters of flights were on time - up from 67% for the same period in 2002.

And average delay times for scheduled flights fell from 18 to 14 minutes.
