Bank to recruit 500 service staff
The Co-operative Bank and Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) are to recruit 500 new staff in the next 12 months.

The jobs will be based at call centres in Manchester, Stockport and Skelmersdale in Lancashire.

The company says it has resisted pressure to move jobs abroad, a practice known as "offshoring."

Sheila Macdonald, Chief Operating Officer at the bank, said: "When a customer contacts us, they should be dealing with one of our own staff."

She added: "Whilst others are happy to use call centres in India and other overseas locations, we do not intend to."

The Bank and CIS employ 2,000 staff at seven service centres across the North West.
