Community leaders in Manchester's Moss Side area are to meet to discuss a recent escalation of shootings. One man has been killed and a teenager badly injured in three firearms incidents in the suburb and nearby Whalley Range in the past month.
It follows a period of calm in south Manchester - which was infamous for gang-related violence during the 1990s.
In the latest incident, at about 1645 BST on Friday, a 16-year-old boy was shot twice in the chest in Great Western Street, Moss Side.
He was taken to hospital and was operated on and his condition was described by doctors on Saturday as serious but stable.

Another man - 19-year-old Justin Maynard - was shot dead in nearby Tugford Close on 26 August. And on 17 September shots were exchanged between two groups of men, one of which was in a car, in the Withington Road and Thorncombe Road areas of Whalley Range.
Erinma Bell, of Carisma (Community Alliance for Renewal Inner-South Manchester Area) said residents were concerned about the rising violence.
She said: "It's been really quiet for quite a long while so we're all really surprised at this sudden outburst of violence and shootings on our streets.
Gang culture
"Basically what we're going to have do as a community is sit down and work this out.
"That is what we did over last year and the year before we had a series of community meetings where ordinary people were getting together.
"We decided that enough is enough and we want guns off our streets."
Carisma was set up by people in Moss Side to tackle low aspirations, gun crime and gang culture among young people.
