Shots fired in drive-bys
Police in Greater Manchester are investigating after two groups of people were shot at in drive-by incidents from a car that was also fired on.

Officers were called to Whalley Range on Wednesday night after the incidents at about 2200 BST.

The first shots were fired at a group of people by a passenger in a red Toyota Carina, at the junction of Withington Road and Yarburgh Street.

Seconds later a man standing on the pavement nearby fired a gun at the Carina, before the passenger opened fire on a second group of people as the car reached the junction of Thorncombe Road and Triscombe Way.

Car abandoned

On Thursday a number of areas were cordoned off for forensic examination.

The car is understood to have had up to four men on board as it was driven past, when one of the passengers leaned out of a rear window fired the shots in the incidents.

As it left the scene of the first shooting Carina, it was joined by a white Volkswagen Golf as it sped away, before it was found abandoned on Radley Street.

No-one was injured in the incidents. Road closures are in place at the junctions of Withington Road and Yarburgh Street and at the junction of Triscombe Way and Thorncombe Road.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the CID at Greenheys police station or ring Crimestoppers.
