Olympic school gets the go ahead

The school will feature a community arts complex and adult learning facilities

A new school building to house 1,800 children is to be built on the site of the London 2012 Olympics.

Chobham Academy will be created after the games in the Olympic Village in Stratford for young people between the ages of three and 19.

During the Games the school building will be used as the main base for organising and managing teams.

The building will be home to a nursery, primary and secondary school when it opens in 2013.

Adult learning facilities and a community arts complex will also be built in the academy.

Planning permission was granted for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) to create the school with Newham Council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said:"Chobham Academy will be a world-class development and puts an educational legacy at the heart of our regeneration ambitions for east London."
