Oliver Kingonzila captained Barnet's youth team |
Players and fans of Barnet football club have observed a one-minute silence to remember a semi-professional footballer who was stabbed to death. Oliver Kingonzila, 19, was found with stab wounds outside the E Bar in Croydon, south London, on 13 September and died shortly afterwards. Mr Kingonzila had captained the Barnet under-18 football team and the England Colleges FA in a match against Italy. The footballer was remembered before Barnet's match against Bury. The club's players wore black armbands during their League Two match at Barnet's Underhill ground for Mr Kingonzila. Following his death Barnet manager Paul Fairclough described Mr Kingonzila as "a gentle giant" who was "keen and eager to be a professional footballer". Triston Burke, 18, of Stanton Road, Croydon, has been charged with Mr Kingonzila's murder.
