A fifth teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend.

The 16-year-defendant was remanded in custody when he appeared at Sutton Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Shakilus, 16, from Deptford, south-east London, was beaten with a baseball bat and repeatedly stabbed in Thornton Heath, south London, on 3 July.

Four youths, including a girl of 15, appeared in court on Thursday over his death and were remanded in custody.

Tyrell Ellis, 18, of Springfield Road, Thornton Heath, two youths, aged 17 and 16, and the girl are charged with murder.

All five defendants will appear at the Old Bailey on 16 October.

A man, 22, also arrested over Shakilus's death has been bailed to return to a south London police station next month.
