Suzy Lamplugh's disappearance has never been solved
Evidence given during the trial of Suffolk killer Steve Wright will be studied by Metropolitan Police investigating the disappearance of an estate agent 22 years ago.

Suzy Lamplugh, a 25-year-old from Mortlake, west London, disappeared in 1986 while showing a house in Fulham to a client named "Mr Kipper".

Her body has never been found but in 1994 she was declared dead, presumed murdered.

Wright, who was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in jail after being convicted of killing five prostitutes in Ipswich, Suffolk, knew Ms Lamplugh when they both worked on the QE2 cruise ship in the 1980s.

Ms Lamplugh was employed as a beautician while Wright was a steward.

Investigate links

Following Wright's conviction Suffolk Police said Metropolitan Police officers had approached them to see the evidence.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said: "We've been approached by the Metropolitan Police in relation to Suzy Lamplugh but that's a standard procedure.

"However, we've got no evidence pointing to his involvement in any other crimes.

"The Met or any other forces have their own investigations and we don't know what pieces of evidence they have."

A Met spokesman said inquiries into Ms Lamplugh's case were continuing but refused to discuss details.

A statement from Suzy Lamplugh's father Paul said: "I am interested in the outcome of the Steve Wright case and I know the police will be making further inquiries and will keep me informed."

Case history

A massive search was undertaken after the estate agent went missing, but by October 1987 the police investigation was scaled down even though the file remained open.

Over the years several convicted murderers were linked with the death but all theories were discounted by the police.

Officers interviewed convicted sex killer John Cannan twice as he was released from a hostel at Wormwood Scrubs Prison, west London, three days before Ms Lamplugh disappeared.

He had been serving a six-year sentence for rape. In 1989 Cannan was jailed for life for raping and murdering Shirley Banks in Bristol.

In 2000, detectives reinvestigated the Lamplugh case when they received new information, but there was not enough evidence to prosecute anyone and the case was closed.

In 2001 police searched a site close to Norton army barracks near Worcester, and then in the Quantock Hills, in Somerset.

As recently as 2006 detectives said they would use new forensic techniques to examine a DNA sample found in her car.

Ms Lamplugh's family set up the Suzy Lamplugh Trust in her memory to promote personal safety.

It has a network of 700 personal safety trainers and tutors.
