Police say they have discovered vital clues which could help solve the mysterious disappearance 14 years ago of Suzy Lamplugh, including two fresh witness statements.

The London estate agent, whose family come from Pembrokeshire, disappeared on 28 July 1986 after going to show a property in Fulham to a client calling himself Mr Kipper.

Information has flooded into the Suzy Lamplugh incident room since the inquiry was re-opened in May.

On Wednesday the BBC's Crimewatch UK programme will present a reconstruction of Suzy's final hours based on new information, including the two witness statements.

The two separate sightings both describe a man and woman seen together in the Fulham area of west London on the day the 25-year-old disappeared.

Eye witness accounts

One witness describes a striking blonde woman in a car arguing with a man. The other saw a man in a suit and a woman wearing a straw hat walking along Stevenage Road in Fulham.

Almost 14 years to the day since Suzy disappeared, Detective Superintendent Shaun Sawyer will use Crimewatch UK to present the clues and make a direct appeal to the killer himself to come forward.

Det Supt Sawyer said: "The pace of the enquiry is very encouraging and we have had some really exciting and helpful information being fed into the team since we relaunched it on 12 May this year."

She looked like she was laughing or she could have been screaming, like she was screaming for help

Eyewitness
At the time of the inquiry police discounted a jogger's sighting of a BMW as irrelevant because it did not fit into their timescale of events.

The jogger also said he believed the woman had blonde hair, but pictures distributed of Miss Lamplugh had brown hair.

It later emerged however that Miss Lamplugh had had her hair highlighted a week before she was abducted.

A straw hat, similar to the one described by another witness, was later found on the back shelf of Suzy's car.

Number of fresh appeals

Speaking on Crimewatch the witness, now in his 50s, said: "I was jogging in Bishop's Park and I came out of the park to be met by a BMW which tore across the road and came to a halt with someone with their hand on the hooter pressing it for a very long time."

He continued: "As I sat there I saw a blonde young lady, she looked like she was laughing or she could have been screaming, like she was screaming for help."

On the programme, police will also appeal to the anonymous writer of a letter sent to a national newspaper last month to urgently get in touch with police.

The letter names a suspect and links him to activities and locations in the days following Suzy's disappearance.

Police are also keen to hear from car dealers or private buyers who may have bought or sold a left-hand drive BMW in 1986, which was seen by the jogger in what they believe is the last reported sighting of her.

Another potential key witness is a man who waved down a black taxi in Finlay Street, Fulham and told the driver he'd seen a couple arguing just moments before.

Det Supt Sawyer said: "I particularly appeal to people who know they have relevant information or possess material which identifies Suzy's killer.

"Fourteen years is a long time and these people may now move in different circles or have different priorities - I say to them help us to bring this inquiry to a conclusion for the sake of Suzy's family who for so long have bravely borne the distress of not knowing what happened to their daughter."

Mother's plea

Crimewatch UK will feature an interview with Suzy's mother, Diana Lamplugh.

"When the police re-appealed this year, they had a tremendous response, but there are still some gaps missing.," said Mrs Lamplugh.

"In two days' time it's the anniversary and it would be really marvellous if Crimewatch could bring forward those people who could just fill those gaps.

"We'd fell very relieved if there was a conviction, because one of our main objectives is that we don't want it to happen again, we don't want anybody else to suffer like we've done."

Crimewatch UK is being screened on BBC1 at 2130BST on Wednesday.
