Car clubs have been given a boost following a 300,000 investment pledge from Transport for London. It is hoped supporting such schemes - which allow drivers to select when and how long they use cars - will reduce congestion and pollution in the city.
Several authorities including Islington, Camden and Ealing have set up car clubs in their boroughs.
Research has shown for every one car club there are six fewer private cars on the road.
A TfL spokesman said: "Car clubs have a real impact in reducing the number of cars on the road, reducing congestion and pollution and easing the pressures on parking."
There are currently 14,000 users across the UK with 12,000 in London alone.
