Trafalgar Square will once again play host to 2012 celebrations |
Trafalgar Square will host a big party on Thursday to mark the anniversary of London winning its 2012 Olympic bid. The square, where thousands of people gathered to hear the news nearly 12 months ago, will host a music event including dancing and a gospel choir.
Visitors to the square will be able to take part in Olympic sports such as fencing, basketball and sprinting.
A 2012 bus will set off on a 3,000 mile trip to explain the benefits of hosting the Games for the whole of the UK.
 | This will provide a vital legacy for the whole nation |
Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London organising committee, will be on the bus for several of its 50 stops.
The Games will largely be staged in London's East End, and the plan is that they will help regenerate a deprived area, leaving a lasting legacy.
But the roadshow aims to highlight economic benefits for businesses, tourism, volunteering and cultural events across the UK.
"This will provide a vital legacy for the whole nation," said Lord Coe.
Nearly a year on from beating Paris to host the 2012 Games and Paralympics, those behind the plans say they are on schedule.
Lord Coe said the top priority in the past 12 months had been getting the foundations in place.
But Olympic Minister Tessa Jowell said, while the first year had been crucial, there could be no let-up in the pace of work.
"The challenge now is to maintain the momentum in the next year, never letting our determination and drive slip for a minute," she said.
