Under-18s in full-time education are to travel free on buses and trams from September, London's mayor has said. To apply the teenagers need to live in a London borough and be studying for at least 12-hours a week or be on some unpaid training schemes.
They also need to apply for a 16 to 17-year-old's Oyster photocard when their schools or colleges reopen.
In April, London mayor Ken Livingstone made Tube travel free for under-11s and has waived bus fares for under-16s.
He said: "Nearly 130,000 16 and 17-year-olds in London can benefit from this policy.
"It not only tackles issues of cost, which is a big factor when deciding to stay in education after 16, but also maintains our agenda of promoting public transport in order to protect the environment."
