Town hall wind turbines approved
Wind Turbines
How planners envisage the turbines will look
A 60,000 plan to install five wind turbines on the roof of a building in north London has been approved.

Camden councillors agreed to put the 6.5m high generators on their town hall in Argyle Street to enable them to power electric-run pool cars.

Charging points for the cars, which are used on noise patrols and for visits, will be fitted in the basement.

The initiative is part of the council's commitment to adopt and promote sustainable energy policies.

The council said the five 2.5KW wind turbines generate 20,000 kWh each year, enough to charge up to 13 cars every year.

The generators will power its fleet of four electric cars as well as any more they may buy in the future.

The committee agreed to liaise with people living in the area over noise pollution and an investigation will be carried out into the impact of the turbines on television and radio reception.
