Wind turbines could soon be installed on the roof of a council building in north London if plans are approved. Camden Council is hoping to put five 6.5 metre high generators on the Town Hall in Argyle Street to enable them to power their electric-run pool cars.
Under proposals to be discussed later, charging points for the cars would be put in the basement of the building.
The initiative is part of the council's commitment to adopting and promoting sustainable energy policies.
Each of the 2.5KW wind turbines generates 20,000 kWh each year, enough to charge up to 12 cars every year.
The council said the generators would power its fleet of four electric cars as well as any more they may buy in the future.
The pool vehicles are used by council staff to make noise pollution patrols, visit residents' homes and for other official business.
