Motorists warned of drugs dangers
Anti-drug driving poster
The campaign has been welcomed by road safety charity Brake
Driving while under the influence of drugs is as dangerous as drink driving, is the message being given to motorists as part of a new campaign.

The Anti-Drug Driving campaign is also warning the crime can lead to a 5,000 fine, loss of driving licence and a six-month prison sentence.

The London Drugs Policy Forum, leading the scheme, says young people often do not realise the dangers.

As part of the campaign posters will be put up on Tubes, trains and buses.

Maureen Kellet, chairman of the London Drug Policy Forum, said the dangers of drug driving was not as widely accepted as those associated with drink driving.

She said: "We know that many who act responsibly with regard to alcohol are placing themselves and others at great risk by driving under the influence of drugs.

"We also know many in this group are unaware of the legal situation relating to drugs and driving."

Mary Williams, the Chief Executive of road safety charity Brake, said she welcomed the campaign.
