Council staff get extra holiday

Staff at a Lincolnshire council have been given an extra day's holiday after the authority received a "good" rating from the Audit Commission.

East Lindsey District Council was branded a "weak" authority in 2004 and has since undertaken a major improvement programme.

Inspectors said the authority's services had improved faster than most other councils.

The 800-strong workforce will now be rewarded with an extra day off.

Chief executive Nigel Howells said: "People here wouldn't expect a bonus and that's not appropriate in a public sector ethos but they do need to be recognised for the enormous amount of hard work and effort they've put in over the last four years.

"This is just a small recognition."
