Some residents will have to pay an extra �100 a year

Lincolnshire Police Authority has agreed a �26m increase to the budget to help improve services.

The move means people living in an average Band D property, will have to pay an extra �2 per week on their council tax for police services.

Chief Constable Tony Lake said the decision was very important news for the whole of the force.

"This decision means Lincolnshire Police can move forward. It was a decision that means we can secure our future," said Chief Constable Lake.

"I know every single person who works for Lincolnshire Police was hanging on this decision today and I hope they will be very encouraged."

The Police Authority tried to gain extra funding from the government at a meeting on 7 February but proposals were rejected, leaving the force with a �4m deficit.
