Cash-strapped force may cut posts
Lincolnshire Police Authority says it faces a choice between cutting the number of officers or increasing its part of the council tax by about 100.

The force is currently facing a budget shortfall of 7m and claims to be one of the worst funded forces nationally.

On Friday, the Police Authority met local politicians for discussions.

Lincolnshire's Chief Constable and the Police Authority will be meeting Policing Minister Tony McNulty next month for further talks on funding.

Lincolnshire Police Authority Chairman Angela Crowe said: "Independent research, unasked-for by us, proves us to be one of the most efficient forces in the country.

"We have very little spare capacity to do anything, in fact quite the reverse.

"We have numbers of officers who are probably doing more than they should be doing and the resilience is stretched to the limit.

"We hope to persuade [Mr McNulty] that there is a legitimate reason why central government should help the people of Lincolnshire without asking them to find the money themselves.
