An online petition has been set up to try to safeguard the future of the Red Arrows aerobatics team. Speculation continues over whether the elite flyers will be disbanded or moved from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire.
The development could form part of a spending review by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
So far more than 4,000 people have signed the petition on the Downing Street website calling for a guarantee that funding will continue.
"The Red Arrows are important to not only Lincolnshire and West Lindsey but to the country as a whole," West Lindsey District Councillor David Cotton said.
"They have bought millions and billions of pounds of revenue into this country from the sale of the hawk jet alone.
"They're also extremely good ambassadors for the Royal Air Force and they are, people must realise, a frontline squadron. They're not just a display team," he said.
