City's heritage is example to MPs
An influential group of MPs have visited Lincoln to learn how the city's heritage has been preserved.

The government select committee is looking at how to make the nation's heritage more accessible.

The MPs looked at the castle, cathedral and Bishop's Palace as part of the trip on Tuesday.

The group will use the visit to help advise on the forthcoming Heritage White Paper being drawn up by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

The dean of Lincoln, the Very Reverend Alec Knight, said: "Lincoln has two world-class icons - the cathedral and the Magna Carta.

"We have to demonstrate how vital it is for continued government investment and heritage lottery funding if we are to make the most of this potential."
