'Disaster' warning over road plan
Bypass march
The group says traffic is choking the town of Boston
Campaigners have given a thumbs down to plans for a special road to ease traffic problems in a Lincs town.

The Boston Bypass Pressure Group say it would be a disaster for the town, and a bypass is the only solution.

Around 300 people from Kirton, Wyberton and Frampton attended a public meeting to hear plans for a so-called Southern Economic Corridor.

A show of hands at the end of the meeting showed two abstentions with the rest against the scheme.

The proposal, which would feature changes to existing roads rather than the bypass, was put forward by Boston Borough and Lincolnshire County councils.

Campaigners said the town is frequently gridlocked and want a bypass to be included in the county's new five-year transport plan.

But the county council said it plans to press ahead with the scheme, which will be built in two stages, and is set to apply for planning permission for phase one.

Permission for the second stage, from London Road to the A16, is set to follow at a later date when funding is available.
