Work to save historic buildings
Buildings on Bridge Street
The buildings have been an eyesore for years
Major renovation work has started on a row of dilapidated buildings in Horncastle, Lincolnshire.

The properties on Bridge Street are being repaired and turned into offices as part of a 1m project by Heritage Lincolnshire.

They have been boarded up for years with scaffolding and wire fencing holding them up.

The listed buildings were the subject of a compulsory purchase order by the local authority.

The row of buildings is believed to date back to the 18th and 19th Centuries.

David Start, from Heritage Lincolnshire said: "In the last 10 years their condition has grown steadily worse and the people of Horncastle are absolutely sick and tired of such a blot on their main street.

"Horncastle is a fabulous historic town and a lot of work has been done to bring it back to the state where we can be proud of it."

He said it had taken five years for Heritage Lincolnshire to get funding and plans in place.

The renovations are scheduled to last a year.

The buildings will be used as offices and will include a landscaped garden and a glazed link between the block and new toilets.
