'No need' for health care probe
Inspectors have come out against a formal inquiry into an out-of-hours health care service in East Lincs.

The independent Healthcare Commission said in recommendations to health managers the move was not neccessary.

It was asked to look at the out-of-hours system after concerns were raised about the way it operates.

Under the scheme, home visits by doctors have been replaced with paramedic visits, telephone advice and visits to hospital emergency centres.

'Long waits'

Some doctors have said the service is putting patient safety at risk.

One local GP said patients had complained about slow response to queries and long waits at hospital emergency centres.

In their report, inspectors asked managers to review the way the system was run by monitoring the service more closely and making sure it could cope at peak times.

Health managers say they will put together an action plan to meet the recommendations.

Earlier this year GPs in Louth tried, unsuccessfully, to take over the service following complaints from patients.
