Opinions sought on drinking times

It is not thought the 'drinking culture' of the town will change
People in Boston are being encouraged to give their views on the licensing of pubs and clubs in the town.

From next February, magistrates hand over the power of licensing, including opening times, to local authorities.

Boston Borough Council is putting together its draft policy and says it is consulting the police, the courts and local people.

But the council said it does not anticipate a sudden change in the night time culture in Boston.

The Head of Community Services at the Council, Andy Statham, said: "I don't think there will be a rush of premises wanting 24-hour opening.

"A lot of the trade we have spoken to are happy with the way things are but of course in the town centre particularly it does give that flexibility to broaden the night-time economy which is a very prosperous area."
