Drivers 'putting lives at risk'
Police say motorists in part of Lincolnshire are putting lives at risk by ignoring road closure signs.

Fydell Street in Boston is closed by roadworks but officers say motorists are still using the road and causing a serious risk to residents.

Residents and pedestrians have complained about cars and footpaths being damaged.

Barriers have been placed at the junction of Castle Street and Fydell Street to close off access.

Bypass campaign

Pc Tim Booth, from Boston police, said things were getting out of hand.

"My colleagues at Lincolnshire highways are getting numerous calls with regard to damaged vehicles, bits broken off vehicles, lorries passing through narrow streets.

"People have been opening their front doors and finding vehicles driving past on the footpath. That's a situation we cannot allow."

Officers say the work will take longer than the planned four weeks if people continue to flout the rules.

The roads have been closed as part of the construction of the town's new 25m Asda supermarket.

Local councillors are campaigning for a bypass around the town to be included in the county's transport plan.
