Resident's protest falls short
Louth
A report labelled East Lindsey District Council as weak
A fraction of the number of people expected to join a demonstration in protest against East Lindsey District Council have turned up.

Around 70 people turned up at Tedder Hall headquarters of the council at Manby, near Louth, despite organisers expecting more than 1,000.

Despite the low turn out organisers said this was just the start of their campaign against the council. The council says the increase is just a fraction above inflation.

'Caretakers' of area

The authority's part of the council tax is to rise by 2.5%.

But councillors have also voted themselves an 11% rise in allowances despite a critical annual report which described it as "weak".

One of the protest organisers, Bill Hatchman, believes locals are getting a raw deal.

"People are so dissatisfied with the whole of East Lindsey District Council.

"They are the caretakers of the area and we are their employers.

"We need them to be more open, to come and speak to us and tell us what they are going to do with our money."
