Controversial plans to build a wind farm in Lincolnshire have been rejected by councillors. The company, Your Energy, applied to erect 10 turbines on land between Laughton and Blyton near Gainsborough.
Officers at West Lindsey District Council recommended the application be approved, despite protests from locals concerned it would ruin the landscape.
But on Wednesday night hundreds of people packed into Blyton Village Hall to hear councillors reject the plans.
The plans for the 100 metre high turbines were turned down on a number of grounds, including the impact on the surrounding landscape and local communities. Dick Bird, Chairman of the Laughton and Scottern Wind Turbine Action Group, said: "We're really delighted, this is good news for everybody and it's nice to know we have enlightened councillors who are making enlightened decisions.
"Our main concerns were of course the visual impact, the noise and the very fact that these wind turbines just do not work, they are not cost effective."
But Charles Sandham, the Director of Your Energy said they would be appealing against the decision.
"The grounds that were cited came out of a lack of understanding really, a lot of reference to the planning officers report rather than the application.
"The environmental statement is in the application which would have answered a lot of questions.
"So we are unconcerned, it just means we are going to lose six months until we get a decision through on appeal."
