Company's drive to 'break myths'
Welton oil field
Residents are opposed to the plans for the site
An information sheet aimed at breaking "myths" about gas storage and wind turbines is being sent to people living in villages north of Lincoln.

Altogether 17,000 pamphlets have been sent out by Star Energy.

The firm wants to build a gas storage facility near Welton - and erect 14 wind turbines in Lincolnshire.

The information sheet has met with criticism from campaigners, who say it does not paint the true picture about the risks involved.

No risk

Opponents of the plans said people are not being given the full picture.

Steve Taylor from the Action Group Against Stars Turbines said: "It's at the very least misleading information that's being issued locally.

"What we don't understand is why are they not issuing the same information locally as they are admitting to the stock exchange nationally?

"There could be all sort of injuries and hazards associated with their gas storage proposal."

But, Star Energy denied residents are being misled.

Barrie Hedges, from the company said: "There are no great risks in gas storage at all otherwise we wouldn't be able to do it.

"The risks are cleared not by us of but by the Health and Safety Executive.

"There are already sites in this country doing it.

"We have to find new ways to resolve our gas needs for the future because the UK is no longer self sufficient, so we have to be able to store it."
