Work is due to get underway on a project to relieve congestion on a Lincolnshire stretch of the East Coast main line. A 12m section of track is to be installed at Allington Junction near Grantham.
When completed, the Nottingham-to-Skegness service will bypass the East Coast main line - improving the journey time on that route.
The work on the Nottingham branch line is scheduled to begin in April.
Until now Central Trains, which runs the Skegness service, used the East Coast main line between Grantham and Barkston South Junction.
The construction company Carillion has won the contract for the project.
