The station was due to open in December |
The managing director of East Midlands Trains has admitted that the opening of a 25m flagship new rail station could be delayed. Construction of the Parkway station, near junction 24 of the M1 and East Midlands Airport, began in December. But the station - complete with 850 parking spaces just off the motorway - might not open in time because of a row over an access road. The delay was revealed as the train company announced its new timetable. 'Taking shape' The Parkway project has been on the drawing board for 10 years. Tim Shoveller, managing director of East Midlands Trains said they were working "really hard" to ensure the station would open on the 14th of December. "People have been recruited and you can see the station taking shape as you drive past. "Some of the issues have been associated with some planning consents and some issues associated with the road construction of getting into the station which has challenged the programme. "If it doesn't open then the trains that are due to call there just will not be able to do that, but that doesn't cause any problems for the timetable." Network Rail say they it would be making a statement about East Midlands Parkway on Monday.
