Motorists caught under influence
Police in Leicestershire have caught 47 people driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs since the start of a seasonal crackdown.

In the first nine days of the campaign, a total of 303 motorists were stopped and breathalysed by officers.

Leicestershire Police's Christmas Drink Drive Campaign began on 1 December and will end on 1 January.

Drivers found over the legal limit face the prospect of losing their licence for a minimum of one year.

Leicestershire Constabulary's road safety officer John Budulis said: "It is disappointing that 47 drivers have ignored our warnings and are willing to risk their own and other people's lives by drinking and driving.

"Just one motorist getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol and thinking that they will get away with it is one too many."
