Extra purge to stop drink drivers
Police in Leicestershire have started breathalysing drivers in the mornings, as well as the evenings.

Figures for December revealed too many people were driving while drunk and many were still over the limit the morning after a night out.

Police stopped 1,000 motorists and 78 were found to be over the limit.

Nottinghamshire Police said of 700 drivers stopped, 24 were over the limit. Of the 2,000 stopped in Derbyshire, 82 had excess alcohol.

A spokesman from Leicestershire Police said drivers needed to think about driving the morning after celebrating as alcohol could still be in the system, causing motorists to fail a breath test if stopped.

Over the Christmas period, Derbyshire Police said they were offering a reward of up to 1,000 for information leading to the arrest and charge of anyone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
