Police operation swoops on bikers
Police are set to crack down on people illegally using quad bikes and other powered vehicles in Leicestershire.

Officers are warning they will seize the vehicles if they are being used in an anti-social manner.

Operation Kestrel will target the Beaumont Leys, Braunstone, New Parks, Hinckley and Blaby areas.

Leicestershire Police said the number of complaints often rose when the weather improves and the school holidays approach.

Parents urged

Police can prosecute people for a number of offences including no insurance, no MOT, no vehicle identification number, no brakes or lighting.

Insp Alan Worth said: "Many parents have bought mopeds for their children without being aware that it is not a toy and that these mini-scooters are actually classed as vehicles when they are on a footpath or road.

"They cannot be used on pavements, footpaths, parks and wasteland and if they are driven on the highway, road traffic offences will be committed if all the legal requirements are not met.

"I would urge parents to ensure their children only use scooters and mopeds in a safe and legal manner that does not put anyone at risk."
