Budget plans cuts and tax rises
Cuts worth around 8m have been proposed in the new budget for Leicester city council.

The plans for savings in the education department include closing one of the city's libraries and reducing opening hours at two others.

The authority has admitted there will also be job cuts but said it was too early to know how many.

A rise in council tax, to provide an extra 79m of income, is expected to be below the rate of inflation.

Cuts will also be made in the regeneration budget but council leader Roger Blackmore, denied the move will have a serious impact.
