Bars imposing stricter ID checks
More pubs and bars in Leicester are asking customers who look under 25-years-old for ID as part of a crackdown on underage drinking.

Managers at Yates's Wine Bar in Leicester said their staff are turning away about 150 people every weekend.

Manager Diane Brown said: "We are not getting kids trying to get in anymore."

But student Luke Attwood, 19, said: "It is annoying to always be asked for your driving licence or your passport - the two forms of ID they accept."

During a recent crackdown on underage drinking by Leicestershire Police, only half of the six premises tested in the Braunstone Gate area refused to serve drinks to underage clients.

But police were pleased with results in Leicester City Centre where eight venues refused to service alcohol to 16-year-olds.
