More will benefit from Herceptin
Herceptin
Doctors will judge if the benefits outweigh the risks in each case
Funding is to be set aside to provide Herceptin for more breast cancer patients, health bosses in Rutland, Leicestershire and Northants said.

It comes ahead of the licensing authorisation and guidance from National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Six women identified already in the three trust areas will get Herceptin.

A spokeswoman said patients would get it only when their doctor was confident potential benefits exceeded the risks.

Chief executive of the Eastern Leicester Primary Care Trust (PCT) said the three health trusts "have been able to work together and agree on funding as well as provide guidelines which our clinicians can now work with in order that patients can have access to this drug."
