New heart unit officially opens
A �17m heart unit is being officially opened in Leicester.

The extension to the Cardio Vascular Department at the Glenfield Hospital has been funded by government cash.

Four new extensions have been built on to the existing main building, which should increase the capacity to diagnose and treat patients by 41%.

More than 90 new jobs have been created as a result of the extension, which is opened on Friday by Health Secretary and Leicester West MP, Patricia Hewitt.

The development has included the creation of a new cardiac theatre, a dedicated children's department, 17 more beds and a new physiology unit.
