Police cut traffic warden numbers
Parking ticket
Community Support Officers can still issue tickets
The number of traffic wardens on the streets of Leicestershire and Rutland has been halved in the last two years.

But Leicestershire Police say that does not mean drivers are getting away with more illegal parking.

Two years ago there were 76 traffic wardens in Leicestershire and Rutland, while currently there are 33.

The police say changes in the system mean many wardens are retraining as Community Support Officers (CSOs) who can still issue parking tickets.

CSOs also have other powers to deal with anti-social behaviour.

There were no CSOs two years ago but the area now has 77.

At the moment, traffic and parking enforcement is overseen by the police, but in the future the council will take over responsibility.
