Walking scheme sees car use drop
Teachers in Leicestershire claim a trial scheme aimed at getting more pupils to walk in has reduced cars on the school run.

Staff at Brooks Hill Primary School in Oadby said the number of cars used has been reduced by 90%.

The Star Walkers scheme offers incentives to children if they walk.

Headteacher Robin Marlin said: "There are educational benefits because children come to school with their brains in gear."

He added: "They have exercise which is a very good thing and there are educational benefits because children learn how to cross the roads properly."
