More police will be on patrol
Leicestershire police are putting on extra patrols over the festive period to cut down on "alcohol-fuelled" crime.

The campaign up to the New Year will focus on anti-social behaviour, drink driving, burglary and vehicle crime.

Home Office figures show alcohol is the cause of half of all violent crime and 70% of hospital accident and emergency department admissions.

A police spokesman said they will issue fixed penalty notices for disorder and use their powers of dispersal.

Superintendent Kevin Burrows said: "Additional officers will be on patrol in the city centre and other towns within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland."

He said undercover officers will be visiting licensed premises to ensure they are not selling alcohol to under-age drinkers.
