The name change is still causing controversy |
A new song accuses Robin Hood of stealing East Midlands Airport as anger over the airfield's renaming continues. Fred Pollard reckons his new song is in tune with Leics residents still upset that an airfield in their county now bears the name of Nottingham.
Mr Pollard has recorded Robin Hood Has stolen Our Airport onto CD.
Airport bosses have not commented on the song, but previously claimed adding Nottingham to the name helps travellers from abroad know where the airport is.
 | I felt I should do something to ease the frustration |
Only a dozen copies of the song have been made. The singer says it is too early to say if it will go on sale. He is waiting to see what the reaction is from initial publicity.
The airfield was set up by councils across the East Midlands, and the name reflected its site, on the border of three counties.
It is officially now called Nottingham East Midlands Airport, much to the anger of Derby and Leicester people who feel sidelined.
Mr Pollard, from Humberstone, said: "Like most Leicestershire folk, I was shocked and appalled with the owners' decision to rename the airport.
"I felt very strongly about it really. I felt I should do something to ease the frustration."
Airport bosses have said that by adding Nottingham to the airport name it will help travellers from abroad know where it is.
Outside the UK, the East Midlands name is not so well known, but town and city names are, and foreigners are likely to have heard of Robin Hood.
They said an increase in travellers will benefit all cities in the East Midlands.
