Protesters fear aircraft noise with spoil their homes |
More than 100 people are travelling to London to protest against plans for a new flight path from Nottingham East Midlands Airport. Residents in villages near the route, to the east of the airport, fear lower flying planes would ruin their lives.
But managers say airspace is being re-organised and safety and environmental issues would be improved under the proposal.
A decision is due to be made about the new flight path on 21 June.
Villagers from places like Sileby, Thrussington, and Walton on the Wolds fear they would be affected by the new route, with planes flying much lower than at the moment. Coaches are taking the group to the capital on Tuesday to demonstrate outside parliament.
Steve Charlish, organiser of the group, East Leicestershire Villages Against Airspace, insisted quiet villages would be destroyed by the noise of the aircraft.
He said: "There are plans afoot for a massive amount of freight to come in and out.
"It is being targeted to come in and out over a very tranquil area of the countryside."

But Graham Keddie, managing director of the airport, insisted the changes would actually cut noise.
He said: "The reorganised flight paths will mean much lower noise levels because in the current corridor we have to fly the planes much lower.
"They also have to turn quite often which increases the noise they make.
"This new route means we can bring them in higher and flying straight, so the noise levels will actually drop."
Mr Keddie added that 75% less people will be affected and those beneath new routes will notice little difference.
