An elderly couple have no money for food after two men pretending to be officials tricked their way into their home and stole all their money. The bogus callers told the couple they were from the water board to enter to the house in Blaby, Leics on Friday.
One of the men distracted the woman, 87, by asking her to turn the taps on while another searched the house, and took their life savings.
The woman's 85-year-old husband also had his pockets searched.
He had just returned home from hospital.
Despicable crime
Officers have described the two men as cowardly and say it was "a sickening crime".
The first suspect is described as white, about six ft tall, aged between 40 and 45, clean shaven with short black hair. He was wearing a dark blue waterproof jacket.
His accomplice is described as white, about 30 to 35 years old, clean shaven with short dark hair.
Chris Woodward, Blaby Police community initiatives co-ordinator, said: "It beggars belief that these cowardly individuals could inflict such a sickening crime on two very vulnerable people.
"They have been left with nothing - not even money to buy food."
He also reiterated warnings to elderly and vulnerable people not to open the door to any unexpected callers.
