Golden Mile closed for roadworks
Diwali
Pavements will be improved in readiness for Diwali celebrations
One of the busiest roads in Leicester is to be closed for roadworks.

Leicester City Council says improvements are needed to the Golden Mile, a popular shopping area.

Belgrave Road will be closed from 6pm on Saturday until 10pm on Sunday for resurfacing and improvements to pavements, the council said.

The work, from the Belgrave Road flyover to its junction with Melton Road and Loughborough Road, is in preparation for the Diwali festival.

Diwali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated by the Sikh and Hindu community in Leicester on 4 November this year.

More than 60,000 people are expected to join the festivities as the lights are switched on.
