Arson hit farmer thanks community

The fire left cattle without bedding
A farmer from Leicestershire has thanked her neighbours after they rallied around when her business was devastated by a suspected arson attack.

The fire at Sutton Fields Farm in Broughton Astley destroyed 800 tonnes of straw over the weekend.

The fire left cattle with no bedding for the winter - but locals have helped by donating from their stores.

Anne Bodicotte says their generosity has given her a chance of making it through the winter.

Hand to mouth

At the height of the fire, 20 firefighters fought to bring it under control.

"We are very lucky the country community is very supportive and local farmers are offering us straw just to get us by.

"The cattle are dry and bedded and they are not stressed at all."

A wet summer has pushed straw prices higher and Ms Bodicotte admitted the winter could be an expensive time.

"We have no problems hand to mouth for the few weeks ahead of us but what we will do for the rest of the winter, I'm not sure."
