The Shires project will be finished in 2007 |
Plans to double the size of the Shires shopping centre in Leicester have been approved. The city council voted in favour of the development's initial stages at a meeting on Tuesday night.
It will include a network of indoor shops, outdoor plazas, cafes, a leisure centre and 180 flats on land between High Street and Vaughan Way.
Councillor Joan Garrity said: "For Leicester I think it's enormous."
Developers Hammerson plc hope the project will be finished by Christmas 2007.
